That’s not what I said, but hey, I would get mischaracterized all of the time at NiT why should it be any different here.

[…] The rest of the story is here. […]

john h on 6 July, 2007 at 6:37 am #

This certainly sounds promising. Anything to make sure that Smantix will have something to growl about is fine with me.

Seriously, what does WKRN want re NIT?

Kudos to Ivy for getting the ball rolling.

rock and roll…

Rachel on 6 July, 2007 at 6:38 am #

Nice. Thanks to Ivy for getting this thing going. I’m looking forward to the meet-ups, as well.

Klinde on 6 July, 2007 at 6:41 am #

Kat and Ivy,

I must say you rock!!

grandefille on 6 July, 2007 at 6:49 am #

Congratulations, ladies. And thanks.

Long may you wave.

brittney on 6 July, 2007 at 7:11 am #

I’m glad to see this. I hope it is wildly successful.

Aunt B. on 6 July, 2007 at 7:21 am #

I always feel like Smantix is having half of an interesting conversation I’m missing out on the other half of.

Maybe one of the new rules should be that every time Smantix feels misunderstood someone can make him cookies.

Busy Mom on 6 July, 2007 at 7:30 am #

Well, hi there!

I go on vacation, and, everyone moves out.

Nice place you got here. Where’s the food?

Christy on 6 July, 2007 at 7:40 am #

Woohoo! Congrats!
And I love the “Cookies for Smantix” idea.

sistasmif on 6 July, 2007 at 7:48 am #

This isn’t going to be all politics and issues is it? Surely not. Stop calling you Shirley.

Paul Nicholson on 6 July, 2007 at 7:53 am #

Of course, the questions that pop into my head are 1) who is paying for it? and that leads to 2) will it be ad driven?

Are you going to have an aggregator here.

anyway…

hope it works. rock on. good stuff.

Paul Nicholson on 6 July, 2007 at 7:55 am #

Oh and where’s the feed link? I’m hooked on my feed readers now.

Rachel on 6 July, 2007 at 8:04 am #

Paul,
Hang tight. This thing just got off the ground last night thanks to Ivy and Kat, and I’m certain some enhancements are coming.

Cheryl on 6 July, 2007 at 8:04 am #

Sounds like a great idea! Let me know if you have room for an animal blogger!!

newscoma on 6 July, 2007 at 8:06 am #

CeeElCee on 6 July, 2007 at 8:13 am #

And Ivy is the plant blogger.

Flora and fauna. Like ebony and ivory.

saraclark on 6 July, 2007 at 8:25 am #

Kat Coble on 6 July, 2007 at 8:33 am #

Smantix, I was just funnin’ and trying to link to you at the same time.

Aunt B, there aren’t enough cookies in the world, are there?

Paul, We’re paying for it ourselves. And yes, we hope for it to be ad-driven. And we hope for there to eventually be enough revenue to work out a pay-for-post or other rev share model for all involved. There will be an aggregator.

CLC–ouch. It actually took me two read throughs to figure out where you got the idea that Ivy was a plant blogger. I am that kind of an idiot.

All–this is going to be open to a lot of contributors. I apologise for not coming right out of the gate with everything all shiny, but since this was birthed right around 5pm last night we haven’t figured anything out yet.

But we WILL have multiple contributers, a giant blogroll (can anyone tell me why WordPress won’t let me import my OPML file for all the blogs?) and other necessaries. Skin Lingerie

Lynnster on 6 July, 2007 at 8:40 am #

I’m excited, even though I feel like I walked into the Twilight Zone — but what the hell, they already pulled the plug on the NIT aggregator or what? Jeez I’m so confused.

Kat, I am not sure it will let you import an OPML blogroll file. I can’t remember if it let me do that or not for my Blogrolling file but I don’t think it does.

Lynnster on 6 July, 2007 at 8:40 am #

(But you might ask Jon Hickman since you’re on WP.org and see what he says… my knowledge only extends as far as WP.com)

Lesley on 6 July, 2007 at 8:43 am #

I’m with Busy Mom…I leave town for a few days and *poof*.

At some point, it would probably be a good idea to meet with the MetroBlog people and hash out what’s the difference between the two sites. I think it’s valuable to still have a site where there’s a round-up and commentary on what bloggers are writing about.

brittney on 6 July, 2007 at 8:47 am #

I can’t believe you all are using the blogroll I built! IS THERE NO JUSTICE?

I’m kidding, of course.

Only one question… can we make the font BIGGER??? Good grief, those of us with aging eyes can’t read a blessed thing with this teeny-tiny-itty-bitty print…

Chris, maybe you and I should get together for beers Sat night or Sunday afternoon and knock it out. I am thinking planet-php.org code for the feed parsing and blogroll management and then a simple sidebar plugin to pull in the latest feeds (and maybe strip out images and links).

Otherwise I can use statzen to provide a sidebar widget. It has a great feed parser, but it is in Ruby.

Unless of course someone else would rather do it. They could join us and we could just drink beer and watch.

Anything I can do to help, I’m in. I can’t build an aggregator. But I do tap dance occasionally and I like cheese and Johnny Cash.

I guess you don’t know, you said you don’t. Well, I look forward to visiting everyone over here, I guess. What is this place, anyway? Is this a “mommy blog” with some politics? Where am I? What happened?

It’s too f***ing hot here today. My wires are crossed.

Andy Axel on 6 July, 2007 at 11:45 am #

We will have political commentary from both sides of the fence. (Think “Crossfire” without the shouting and bowties.) In fact, we’re looking for some conservative partners. I’m more conservative than others, being that I’m a libertarian, but if you ask some conservatives they’ll tell you that Libertarians are nutcases who can’t be trusted. So if anyone is interested in being a non-nutcase conservative, drop us a line in the comments.

Both sides, huh? Does this political fence only divide Libertarians from conservatives?

Rachel Walden on 6 July, 2007 at 11:49 am #

Busy Mom, I smell a “secret shopper” story brewing…

Jackson on 6 July, 2007 at 12:01 pm #

Thanks for the commendation Busy Mom.

Oh, and BTW, I hear they always are in need of shoppers at Plato’s Closet in Cool Springs. Unfortunately it is B.Y.O.$.

Busy Mom on 6 July, 2007 at 12:06 pm #

Nope, Andy. I’m sorry. I was assuming that everyone knew (even though I didn’t tell them–kick in the head to me) that some of our contributers will include the liberalicious Ivy, Kate O’, Chris Wage, Newscoma and others.

Kat Coble on 6 July, 2007 at 12:17 pm #

No. i’m not a mommy, so it’s not a mommy blog with politics.

(Oh! You got your politics in my Mommy blog! No! You got your mommy blog in my politics!)

Seriously, it’s a potpourri. It’s a community conversation that reflects the many facets of the community involved.

No, wait. Got a little too defensive there. Sorry.

@Andy Axel — Liberals taste better. Surely you know that?

@Jackson — If you all get together, let me know. ‘Cause I’m fairly technical, very skilled at dropping buzzwords I don’t fully understand, and an absolute pro at beer drinking. I think I could be a real asset. You know. To proactively leverage the… something. I’ll work on it.
